[Also in Division G3] A mechanism, e.g. in a crane, having a main brake MBr which is biased on, is controlled at creep speed by a subsidiary brake SBr which is biased off but is applied by an amount proportional to the speed which thus is kept substantially constant. Both brakes are electromechanical; the electro-magnet EM for SBr is energized from a transistor circuit MC which receives a speed dependent voltage. As shown, this is from the slip rings of the motor M whose stator is energized with D.C. for the purpose, but alternatively a tachogenerator is provided.
