Abstract

1,138,878. Sunbathing enclosures. BRITISH LIGHTING INDUSTRIES Ltd. 2 Oct., 1967 [9 Sept., 1966], No. 40447/66. Heading E1A. [Also in Division A5.] A sunbathing enclosure comprises a matt ceiling 12 over a base area 13, lamps 16 arranged to direct light downwards to the base area to produce a visual simulation of the sun's rays, lamps 18 arranged to illuminate the ceiling with bluish-white light to simulate the sky and ultra violet B lamps 19 (emitting radiation of 290- 315 mm arranged to produce uniform distribution of radiation over the base area. The UVB radiation is directed to the ceiling for reflection to the base area. The ceiling is made of flexible material, e.g. polymeric amide coated with polyvinyl chloride, and has a matt coating of aluminium or its oxide. The UVB lamps comprise fluorescent tubes which convert radiation of 253.7 mm to the desired UVB radiation. The ceiling is supported by maintaining excess air pressure in the enclosure by pumps 15, air escaping from the enclosure through shops and changing rooms 14.
