Abstract

1,138,619. Transparent glass laminates. TRIPLEX SAFETY GLASS CO. Ltd. and D. L. A. HAND. 5 May, 1966 [6 May, 1965], No. 19210/65. Heading B5N. A transparent laminate suitable for use in aircraft windscreen panels comprises a loadbearing glass pane (1), a bonding layer (5) between this and an outer glass protecting pane (7), the bonding layer being sufficiently thin, not more than 0À1 inches thick, to avoid development of harmful stresses in the adjacent glass, and an impact resistant layer (10) between the load-bearing pane and an inner glass protecting pane (11) which serves to bond the inner pane to the load-bearing pane. The bonding layer and the outer glass pane are preferably set back on the face of the load bearing pane. The outer and inner panes may comprise toughened or untoughened glass or an adhesively bonded glass laminate. The bonding layer is preferably of a polyvinyl butyl or a silicone. The impact resistant layer is preferably of polyvinyl butyral and may be reinforced by metal inserts 15.
