Abstract

1,138,614. Rotary pipe joints. PLESSEYUK Ltd. 16 March, 1966 [17 March, 1965], No. 11326/65. Heading F2G. [Also in Division H2] A flexible joint for pipes or electrical conductors comprises a fixed portion 8 supporting a flexible pipe 4 and carrying a rotatable portion 2 which supports the other end of the pipe 4, suitable fluid connections 3 and 6 being fitted at the ends of the pipe. The fixed portion 8 consists of a circular plate surrounded by a cylindrical wall 5 which supports a similar circular plate at its other end to form a closed chamber in which the pipes 4 are contained; there being four such pipes in the embodiment illustrated, arranged two a side. The rotatable portion 2 is journalled in a ball-bearing supported in the chamber and co-operates with sealing rings in either end plate to keep the chamber fluid-tight. A tube 11 passes through the wall 5 to enable leaks from the pipes 4 into the chamber to be detected.
