Abstract
1,138,562. Electro-forming copper band. SPETSIALNOE KONSTRUKTORSKOE BJURO TYAZHELYKH TSVETNYKH METALLOV PRI GOSUDATSTVENNOM NAUCHNOISSLEDOVATELSKOM INSTITUTE TSVETNYKH METALLOV. Jan.6, 1966, No.602/66. Heading C7B. A band or foil of copper is formed by electrodeposition on a drum cathode and is then thickened by electro-depositing copper on both sides by passing it between one or more pairs of anodes and agitating the electrolyte by passing air-streams on both sides of the band or foil. Typically a band of thickness 0À04 to 0À08 mm. is formed by electro-deposition from a copper sulphate solution at a current density of 15 to 25 amps/sq. dm, the thickness is increased to 0À4 to 0À8 mm. by passage in a series of loops formed by running alternately over current-carrying contact rollers and immersed insulated rollers at a current density of 7À5 to 15 amps/sq. dm, and finally the thickness is increased, e.g. up to 10mms, by deposition from an alkaline copper electrolyte at a current density of 5 to 10 amps/sq. dm by passage in a straight line between one or more pairs of parallel anodes. If desired passage through the loop-form electrolyzer may be omitted if a final band thickness of only 2 to 4 mms. is required. The copper sulphate electrolyte which may be used at 30 to 70‹ C. may be circulated from the electro-forming drum cathode apparatus to the loop-form electrolyzer from which it is returned to the electro-forming apparatus after replenishment of the copper content.
