Abstract

1,137,668. Locking bolts. SPACE RESEARCH CORP. 17 March, 1966, No. 11790/66. Heading F2H. A bolt having a threaded shank 31 (Fig. 9) is provided with a recess 34 extending partially around the shank and parallel to the threads. The recess receives a bowed locking insert 40, the latter being retained in position by the heads 46 of screws 47 engaging shoulders 42 adjacent the ends of the insert. The ends of the insert are concave to receive a portion of the heads 46. One or more threads may be formed on the insert and the bottom surface of the latter may be arcuate in the direction transverse of its length. In the embodiment of Fig. 6, the recess 14a extends axially of the shank and the insert 15a is retained in place by screws 26. In the embodiment of Figs. 1-5, not shown, the recess is again axial but the screws 26 are omitted.
