[Also in Divisions C7 and H5] In a process of producing a crucible member, a substrate such as electrographite or tantalum is heated to 1800-2200‹ C. in a hydrocarbon atmosphere at a pressure between 0À01 and 100 Torr to form a pyrographite coating, the crystallographic C axis of which extends substantially at right angles, i.e. differs by no more than 15 degrees from the perpendicular to the surface of the crucible. The crucible member may be a crucible, a vaporizer or a heating element used for melting or vaporizing substances such as LiCI, NaCI, KOH, NaOH, NH 4 NO 3 , KNO 3 , KClO 3 , Al, alloys of Zn and Cd, Al and As or P, Ga and As or P.
