Abstract
1,137,145. Refrigerators. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. 10 May, 1966, [12 May, 1965], No. 20583/66. Heading F4H. In a two-compartment refrigerator cooled air for the storage compartment is supplied through a passage 24 and nozzle 39 into a chamber 36 located in a casing 30 to induce a flow of air from the storage compartment through inlets 43 in the casing, the mixed air from the chamber 36 being supplied to the compartment through outlet 45. A thermostat 51 for controlling the refrigeration system is located in casing 30 and has its sensor 52 located in outlet 45 so as to be responsive to the temperature of the mixed air. Nozzle 39 comprises two passages each including a damper 40, the positions of which are manually adjustable by means of a control wheel 41. Cooled air for passage 24 is obtained from the discharge of a fan (12, Fig. 1, not shown), which draws air from both compartments over an evaporator (9) located in a partition (3) and also discharges cold air to the freezer compartment via a tunnel (19) which accommodates an ice tray. A time controlled electric defrost heater (60, Fig. 4, not shown), and a defrost terminating thermostat (69) are provided, defrost water being supplied to the machinery compartment (6) via a drain (72), channel (73), the rear wall of the storage compartment and a further drain (74). In a modification (Figs. 5 and 6, not shown), the freezer compartment (81) is below the storage compartment (80), the evaporator (84) is located at the back of the freezer compartment and air for the storage compartment is supplied through a duct (90) to an upwardly discharging nozzle (92) to mix with air from the storage compartment in a mixing unit (91) having an outlet (95) to the compartment.
