Abstract

1,136,901. Sulphur pellets. ELLIOTT ASSOCIATED DEVELOPMENT Ltd. 29 Oct., 1965 [17 Sept., 1964; 1 Dec., 1964; 12 Feb, 1965; 9 April, 1965], Nos. 38096/64, 48828/64, 6288/65 and 15294/65. Heading C1A. [Also in Division B1] Sulphur pellets are made by feeding molten sulphur into a body of water at atmospheric pressure and preventing the resulting globules of sulphur from massing or piling up together until, in the course of solidifying they have reached a condition in which they do not adhere to one another. Massing or piling up can be prevented by creating a vortex or swirl in the water. The vortex may be created by a stirrer and/or tangential water jets. The water may incorporate a polymeric surfactant e.g. a silicone fluid, which may be diluted with benzene, toluene or xylene, polyethylene and polypropylene oxide compounds, polyacryl - amides or polysulphites. The initial molten sulphur may be at 130-140‹ C. under 1 p.s.i.g. The sulphur pellets obtained contain less than 1% wt. water.
