Abstract

1,136,819. Glass paste. VERRERIES POCHET ET DU COURVAL. 28 March, 1966 [9 April, 1965], No. 13638/66. Heading C1M. Glass paste is made by producing glass paste continuously in a feeder connected to a conventional furnace for the production of glass and continuously introducing to the feeder a charge consisting of raw materials normally used in glass-making and which have not been subjected to a prior heat treatment, the flow of this charge being regulated as a function of the amount of glass which leaves the furnace and which flows in the channel of the feeder. The charge may comprise, e.g. 2/3 sand and 1/3 of other constituents usually employed in vitrifiable compositions. Referring to the Figure, furnace 1 feeds continuously basic glass to feeder 4 via aperture 6. Charge feeding device 8 continuously introduces the charge through a feed screw 10. The charge is previously metered, in an automatic device (not shown) above hopper 9, in accordance with the amount of glass flowing into the feeder. A similar device 16 may be used for introducing crushed coloured cullet. Rotary rabbles 13, 19 to drive the charges to the surface and rotary stirrers 14, 20 are provided downstream of the feeders 8, 16.
