Abstract

1,136,599. Components for structural design. D. W. GRANT. 13 Sept., 1966 [16 June, 1965], No. 25563/65. Heading A6S. Each of a multiplicity of components is of hollow square cross-section open at one end with the other end closed by a face angled to meet the opposite face at an angle of about 30‹ as shown in Fig. 1. Compound components are formed by bonding two components with their centre lines at an angle of 30‹, 60‹ or 150‹ or with their centre lines parallel and angled faces at an angle of 60‹. Spigots inserted in the open ends either detachably hold adjacent components together, as in Figure 7, or close the open end of a component, as in Figure 8. The connecting spigot may or may not have a central spacer 30 which abuts against the ends of the components into which the spigot is introduced. A further compound component as in Figure 6, may be formed of a central hollow column 29 of square cross section to the four faces of which are bonded four components, each as shown in Figure 1. The components may be made of polystyrene and the spigots of polythene.
