Abstract

1364687 Furniture joints ALBRIZZI Ltd 5 Aug 1971 36962/71 Heading F2 A column 1 has a central core 2 and four subcolumns 3 all of octagonal section, and two or more female elements 5, 5<SP>1</SP> that slideably embrace a sub-column 3 and each include a laterally open bore 6 of octagonal cross-section. One or two sides of the octagon of the bore 6 are omitted to define the opening, and the bore sides adjacent the opening are defined by lips 20. The female element 5 includes a spigot 11 provided with a channel 14, said spigot receiving a rectangular section tube or channel 18. The element 5 is secured to the sub-column 3 by socketed grub screws 12 inserted in tapped bores 13 in element 5. The spigot 11 is secured to the tube 18 by self-tapping screws inserted in holes such as 17 in the tube and in the spigot 11. Columns 1 and elements 5 may form a framework for supporting a shelf or glass table top. The tops of columns 1 may be socketed to receive buffer plugs. Parts 1, 5, 18 may comprise extruded aluminium.
