Abstract

1,136,491. Magnetic structures. SOC. INDUSTRIELLE BULL - GENERAL ELECTRIC. 31 March, 1966 [2 April, 1965], No. 14409/66. Heading H1H. [Also in Division C7] A thin film of a ferromagnetic alloy deposited on a support comprises at least 2 layers, each of which has a constant composition on either side of a mean value corresponding to zero magnetostriction and minimum anisotropy, so that the net magnetostriction is zero, but the anisotropy is non-minimum. The layers may be deposited electrolytically on a metal support serving as cathode, in the presence of thiourea, as described in Specification 1,136,492. Alternatively, the layers may be formed by evaporation from alloy blocks. The alloy is preferably Ni-Fe, the mean value being 82-83% Ni and 18-17% Fe. Other alloys referred to are Ni-Fe-Co, Ni-Co, and Ni-Fe-Mo. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 1,083,673.
