Abstract

1,136,492. Magnetic structures. SOC. INDUSTRIELLE BULL - GENERAL ELECTRIC. 31 March, 1966 [2 April, 1965], No. 14410/66. Heading H1H. [Also in Division C7] A thin film of a Ni-Fe alloy of zero magnetostriction is deposited by electrolysis on a metal support used as cathode, at constant temperature and constant current density, without stirring, using an electrolyte having a pH of 2À5, and containing 0À25 g/l thiourea, >7 g/l Fe<SP>++</SP>, and >34 g/l Ni<SP>++</SP>, the Ni/Fe ion concentration ratio being 82-83/17-18. The electrolyte may contain NiSO 4 , FeSO 4 , H 3 BO 3 , and Na lauryl sulphate, and may be maintained under an inert gas, e.g. N 2 . The support may be planar or filiform. The anode compartment may be separated from the cathode compartment by a diaphragm and may contain Na 2 SO 4 and H 3 BO 3 . The temperature may be 18‹, 28‹, 38‹ or 45‹ C., the corresponding current density being about 2, 6À8, 17, and 30 mA/cm.<SP>2</SP> The film contains sulphur, and may have an anisotropy field of 2À5 Oe, a coercive field of 2À5 Oe, microscopic and macroscopic angular dispersions of 2 and 1 degrees resp., and a thickness of 150-250 Š.
