Abstract

1,136,264. Packaging-machines. BRITISH UNITED SHOE MACHINERY CO. Ltd. 10 Dec., 1965 [10 Dec., 1964], No. 52455/65. Heading B8C. Apparatus for transporting packages and for shrinking membrane portions of the packages around products enclosed by the membrane portions comprises a structural frame 1 having cam tracks 5, a carriage mechanism 6 having rollers 9, 10 supported in the cam tracks, vacuum actuated lifting devices 30 attached to the carriage and arranged to lift and release a package, a conveyer belt 53 and package heating apparatus 56. A round table machine 60 as described in Specification 1,136,263 advances packages 61 below suction pads 35, 36 of the lifting devices 30 which are supported by a bar 8 on the ends of which are mounted the rollers 10. The bar 8 is connected by pivoted links 15, 16 to a bar 7 having rollers 9 at each end. The bar 7 supports an air chamber 20 connected by flexible hoses 27 to each of the three lifting devices 30. A microswitch positioned adjacent one end of the cam tracks 5 operates a vacuum supply source (not shown), thereby causing the suction pads 35, 36 to lift packages whilst at the same time a piston 48 actuated by an air cylinder 42 withdraws the carriage mechanism 6 until a microswitch positioned at the other end of the cam tracks is operated which releases the vacuum thereby depositing the packages on a moving conveyer belt 53. The conveyer belt advances the packages through a heat chamber 56 where the membrane portions of the packages are shrunk to conform to the shape of the enclosed products.
