Abstract

An extensible conveyer comprises a fixed frame A supporting a frame B movable relative thereto and which in turn supports a frame C movable relative thereto at a relative speed equal to that between the frames A, B. An endless conveyer belt D extends around pairs of rollers 21, 6, 43, 44, 71 and 65 carried by the respective frames A, B, C. The means for moving the frame B, C comprises an electric motor 48 mounted on the frame B and driving sprockets 34 engaging chains 14 fixed to the frame A, and driving sprockets 39, 40 through further sprockets 36, 37 and a chain 38, which sprockets 39, 40 engage chains 67 fixed to the frame C. All the sprockets 34, 36, 37, 39, 40 are of the same diameter thus resulting in equal relative speeds between the respective frames. The frames move relative to each other on rollers 18, 30, 51 co-operating respectively with angle section side beams 10, 12, 53. The conveyer D is driven by an electric motor 70 rotating about a fixed shaft 61 within the roller 71 at the front of the frame C and the required belt tension is obtained by the roller 21 mounted by springs 22 on a bar 7 adjustable in relation to the frame A. The roller 6 in the diagonally opposite corner of the frame A to the roller 21 forms one end of the conveying surface 78 of the conveyer and the roller 71 forms the other. The extension of the conveyer surface 78 takes place with a corresponding reduction in the lengths 76, 77 between rollers 65, 43 and between rollers 44, 21 respectively. Further extension is possible as the lengths 76, 77 approach the vertical by rotation of the roller 21 about the adjustable bar 7. The conveyer D is supported along its upper run 78 by decking 4, 73 extending between the respective side members 2, 53 of the frames A, C. The frame A may have retractable wheels whereby the conveyer is portable. The conveyer is applicable for mounting on a loading bay (P) Fig.- 5, not shown, for loading and unloading lorries (G) by extension and retraction across the carrying portion thereof.
