The double door of a solid fuel combustion chamber, comprising an outer transparent panel 1 in a frame 3 mounted on a pivot 4 and locked by catch 5, and an inner door 6 consisting of transparent strips 7 mounted in a frame 8 pivoted about side 9 and locked by a catch 10, incorporates air inlets 12 through which air from duct 11 is blown to chamber 13 and then past the strips 7 to the combustion chamber thus protecting the transparent material (e.g. borosilicate) from volatile combustion products. .
