Abstract
1,135,509. Coil forming clamps. ATELIERS DE CONSTRUCTIONS ELECTRIQUES DE CHARLEROI (ACEC). 17 July, 1967 [20 July, 1966], No. 32808/67. Heading B3A. A manually-operated clamp for gripping one end of the straight portion of a blank in a coil expanding machine includes a support 1 having a plane surface, on which are slidable two members 3, 4 provided with jaws 5, 6 for gripping the blank. The member 3 is formed as a frame surrounding the member 4 and both members have a screw-threaded bore, the threads being of opposite hand. Each bore contains a screw 10, 11 terminating with a pusher 15, 16 and a prismatic rod 12 passes slidably through the screws 10, 11 in holes of the same shape. Each pusher 15, 16 bears against two plates 17, 18 which have opposed inclined surfaces and have a bore allowing free rotation of the rod 12. A wedge 19 fits between the inclined surfaces and is forked to straddle the rod. The wedge is movable by a cam 22 operated by a lever 23. A closure part 26 is manually slidable on a pivot 27 to allow its end 29 to bear on the upper portion of a blank clamped in the jaws 5, 6 when rocked about the pivot by the cam 22. A vertically adjustable stirrup piece 30 embraces the jaws and supports the bottom of the blank held therein. When the wedge 19 is disengaged from the plates 17, 18, the member 4 and part 7 move towards each other under the influence of springs 20, 21 thereby opening out the jaws 5, 6. If, when the wedge 19 is disengaged, the knob 13 is rotated to move the pushers 15, 16 towards each other, the jaws will be moved closer together. Hence the screws 10, 11 allow for adjustment of the jaw gap when the wedge is driven home and the jaws always open to the full extent when it is withdrawn.
