Abstract

1,135,323. Induced draught systems. GAS COUNCIL. 8 Aug., 1967 [10 June, 1966], No. 25983/66. Headings F4J and F4W. Combustion products from a gas-fired appliance 1 having a burner unit 3 leave via a ventilating system comprising a primary flue section 4, a break-draught in the form of a draught diverter 5, and secondary flue sections 6, 8 to finally exit through an outlet 9, the flow of combustion products being induced through the sections 6, 8 by a centrifugal fan 7. The draught diverter 5 consists of a baffle plate (29, Fig. 2) positioned within a funnel-shaped member 11. To prevent spillage of combustion products into the room through the top of the funnel 11, e.g. due to blockage of the outlet 9, a temperature sensitive probe 13 actuates a solenoid gas valve (19, Fig. 2) to shut-off gas supply to the burner 3. A further probe (24, Fig. 3) sensitive to residual heat is provided to actuate restarting the fan to cool the first probe 13. Alternatively a flow-sensing device in the form of a vane 35 mounted on an arm 33 and counterbalanced by weight 36 is situated within the duct 6 and acts to cut-off gas supply to the burner when the rate of flow of combustion products falls below a predetermined level.
