Abstract
1,135,011. Treating leather. J. STOCKHAUSEN [trading as CHEMISCHE FABRIK STOCKHAUSEN & CIE], Jan. 7, 1966 [Jan. 9, 1965], No. 903/66. Heading C6C. A process for the production of soft, water repellent leather from which no fat or only a little fat can be solvent extracted, comprises fat liquoring leather, which has been chrome tanned or multiple tanned and shaved, at a pH value below the isoelectric point of the leather, with an aqueous emulsion containing a 2-10% by weight based on the shaved leather, of a mixture which comprises 60-95% by weight of a fatty acid and 40-5% by weight of a sulphated fatty acid. Up to 1/5 of the fatty acid component and sulphated fatty acid component may be replaced by fatty acid glyceride and sulphated fatty acid glyceride respectively. The emulsion may contain a solubilizing agent e. g. ethanol, propanol, cyclohexanol, isopropyl glycol and urea.
