[Also in Division G2] A cine projector camera, or tape recorder has an endless coil of film supported on annular disc 1 rotatable about a vertical axis through a central stationary disc 2 having peripheral idle rollers 3 which define the inner film winding. Disc 1 is driven in direction A and may have a system of pairs of rollers (5), as in Fig. 2 (not shown), rotatable about radial axes, the film leaving the inner convolution and returning to the outer. Film may pass horizontally or vertically through the projection gate. A plurality of film carrying discs 1 may be used for long lengths of endless film. In the case of a tape recorder, disc 1 is covered by annular frame (24), Figs. 9-15 (not shown), to which is detachably fastened a cover plate (21) with dependent idle rollers (3) engaging the film. Slots (23) and (29) allow exit and return of the film from the cassette so formed. In use, disc (21) is released and raised and seated by projections (22) on portions (27) of frame (24), Fig. 13, whereby disc (1) may rotate freely as the idle roller shafts are lifted from the recesses (30) in the disc. For multiple-track tapes electrically conductive marks for each track are detected by contactor rollers (45, 46, 47), Fig. 16 (not shown), whereby an electrical signal is used to rotate a cam disc which tilts the magnetic head (43) to scan the next track. The last mark may actuate re-wind mechanism.
