Abstract

[Also in Division A2] In the baking of both sides of goods 12 (e.g. pancakes, oatcakes, drop scones and potato cakes) the goods 12 are deposited on hot plate conveyer 10 above gas burners 11, cooked on one side and scooped up by scoop plates 15 on oscillating shaft 14 or 27, the shaft is rotated through 180‹ such that the goods are turned over and deposited uncooked side downwards on conveyer 10, and the goods are further baked and then passed via a cooling conveyer to a packing station. The oscillating shaft may have a jerk or jump imparted thereto during the turning over of the goods to evenly deposit the goods on the plates 15. The plates 15 have a stopper bar 152 to prevent the goods slipping from the plates 15. In one embodiment (Fig. 5) shaft 27 is rotatably mounted on standards 261 and comprises a section 27b carrying the plates 15 and a section 27a the sections normally being held together by a spring loaded clutch mechanism 271, 272. Section 27a has a sprocket 29 around which is a chain 30 one end of which is connected to spring 301 and the other end to quadrant 31 mounted on shaft 32. An arm 33 is mounted on shaft 32 and carries a roller 331 engaging rotatable cam 34. To turn over the goods the rotating cam 34 acting through roller 331, arm 33, quadrant 31 and chain 30 rotates the shaft 27 which is subsequently returned to its original position by spring 301. Shaft section 27b may be disengaged from the cam mechanism by disengaging the clutch mechanism. In another embodiment shaft 14 is rotated through a rack and pinion gearing. The turning over means may be used with the apparatus described in Specification 894,448.
