Abstract

1,134,642. Hydrocyclones. CLARK & VICARIO Ltd. 1 Dec., 1965 [9 Dec., 1964], No. 50991/65. Heading B2P; [Also in Division D2] In a process for conditioning papermaking stock suspension which comprises maintaining an enclosed stock receiver under substantially less than atmospheric pressure, feeding papermaking stock to a primary cleaning stage with sufficient force to effect classification of the stock into a primary dirt-poor fraction and a primary dirt-rich (fraction, introducing the primary dirt-poor stock suspension into the enclosed stock receiver under deaerating conditions, collecting a pond of deaerated stock suspension within the receiver, withdrawing deaerated stock suspension from the pond in the receiver, feeding the primary dirt-rich stock suspension to a secondary cleaning stage with sufficient force to effect classification of the suspension into a secondary dirt-poor fraction and a secondary dirt-rich fraction, and conveying the secondary dirt-rich stock suspension from the secondary cleaning stage under air-excluding conditions, the secondary dirt-poor stock suspension is introduced without admixture with the primary dirt-poor suspension into a zone of vacuum under deaerating conditions. The stock receiver may contain a weir and a main stock outlet stream of the weir, the stock flowing over the weir being fedt back to the primary cleaning stage. There may be a tertiary cleaning stage which may have the dirt-poor stock suspension introduced into a zone of vacuum which may be the same as the zone of vacuum of the second stage. The two zones may be constituted by the receiver of the first stage downstream of the weir. Alternatively the tertiary stage may have no zone of vacuum with the zone cf the second stage being in the receiver.
