Abstract
1,134,512. Ionization chambers; electrode materials. COMMISSARIAT A L'ENERGIE ATOMIQUE. 9 March, 1966 [11 March, 1965], No. 10449/66. Heading HID. Insulating material constituting the walls, and the body of the collecting electrode, of an ionization chamber are coated with a conductive varnish formed by from 40 to 60% by weight of colloidal graphite, and a binding agent constituted by at least one of acrylonitrile butadiene, acrylic resin, vinyl acetochloride, and acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene copolymer resin. The varnish constituents may be dispersed in methylisobutylketone solvent and applied by brush or spray gun. The varnish is particularly for use in chambers designed to provide a response to ionizing radiation close to that of human tissue, and the insulating material of the chamber may be the polyethylene/magnesium fluoride mixture disclosed in Specification 1,108,583, or a mixture of acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene resin and alumina, or a mixture of nylon, epoxy resin, alumina, and calcium silicate, in given proportions by weight; the latter composition may be woven into the desired shape. The filling may be air, or the mixture disclosed in Specification 1,032,002.
