Abstract

1,134,434. Moulding padded vehicle trims. PRESSED STEEL FISHER Ltd. 9 Aug., 1967 [10 Aug., 1966], No. 35848/66. Heading B5A. A crash pad, fascia top or other padded trim for a vehicle is made by foaming a microcellular resilient urethane foam precursor in a mould having portions maintained at different temperatures. The mould is arranged so that the exposed face of the fascia top is moulded at a high temperature (relative to the other end of the mould) forming a thin soft skin and the back of the fascia top is moulded at a low temperature forming a thick hard skin. In the example the mould is in two thermally insulated halves, one heated to 30-50‹ C. and the other cooled to 0-10‹ C. The urethane foam precursor may contain a polyether polyol or polyester polyol.
