Abstract

1,134,178. Caps for bottles. J. J. ROSEN and S. W. STRICKMAN, [trading as ROSEN & STRICKMAN]. 12 July, 1966, No. 31286/66. Heading B8T. [Also in Divisions B2, C3 and F1] A cap for a bottle has a gasket 90 formed from a ring of foamed plastics coated around its inner periphery. As shown, a crown cap has an outer lithograph coating, an inner lacquer coating 88, a liner 92 of non-foamed plastisol, and the foamed gasket 90. The liner 92 may extend to the edge 81 of the skirt, Fig. 15 (not shown), or may be omitted, Fig. 14 (not shown). The gasket may be coated directly into the bottle cap, Figs. 12, 13 (not shown). In one modification, a bayonet-type bottle cap, Figs. 18-20 (not shown), has a foamed plastics gasket (316). In another modification, a screwtype bottle cap, Figs. 20-24 (not shown), has a foamed plastics gasket coated adjacent the inner edge of the cap skirt; an inset ring (314) may be formed in the top panel of the cap. Constituents for the foamable plastics are specified (see Division C3). Coating apparatus, and processes for coating the foamable plastics into bottle caps, are described (see Divisions B1-B2).
