Abstract

1,134,029. Tree felling. OWENS-JOHNSON SHEARING BLADE CORP. 5 Sept., 1967, No. 40431/67. Heading A1E. A dozer head 16, used for felling trees, comprises a horizontal cutting blade 18 having a curved cutting edge 20, a wedge 22 having a vertical leading edge 24 projecting in front of the blade cutting edge 20, a brace plate 30 and a pusher bar 32 mounted on supporting legs 34 above the dozer head and behind the blade cutting edge 20. Under normal dry conditions the cutting blade 18 is driven into the tree at or below ground level and the felled tree is pushed to one side of the bulldozer by the bar 32. Under wet conditions or when the tree must fall in a particular direction the wedge 22 is driven into the tree so as to split it before felling it with the cutting blade 18.
