Abstract

1,133,643. Pulse generating circuits. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 6 April, 1967 [26 April, 1966], No. 18295/66. Heading H3P. [Also in Division H1] In a pulse generator of the type in which a plurality of capacitors are charged in parallel then discharged in series via spark gaps so as to provide a high voltage pulse, the spark gaps are enclosed in chambers intercommunicating through gas passages arranged so that light produced at a gap can reach the next gap to condition it to trigger, gas being circulated through all the spark gaps at an adjustable pressure to enable the spark gap breakdown voltage to be adjusted. Figs. 2 and 4 (not shown) relate to a pulse generator as described in Specification 837,958, but having an auxiliary three-electrode gap, breakdown of which providing U.V. radiation which sequentially triggers all other gaps. In Fig. 6 (not shown), an arrangement of a compressor and four valves allows the pressure of the circulating gas (filtered air) to be continuously varied from between one-third and four atmospheres, thus adjusting the spark gap breakdown voltage and hence the voltage of the output pulse.
