[Also in Division H1] A coupling between driving and driven shafts 2, 3 whose axes intersect one another at right angles comprises, on the driving shaft 2, an inclined crank 4 extending at 45‹ to the shaft 2 axis and coupled to the driven shaft 3 by a pivotal coupling whose pivot axis extends through the point of intersection of the shaft axes, a 180-degree rotation of the driving shaft producing a 90-degree rotation of the driven shaft, with a high mechanical advantage at the beginning and end of said rotation varying oontinously to a low mechanical advantage during mid-travel. A sleeve 6 rotatable on the inclined crank 4 is pivoted by pins 7 to a forked end 9 of the shaft 3. As applied to electrical switchgear, an output arm 10 is secured to the driven shaft. To stop the shaft 2 after 180‹ rotation, a pawl 17 is spring-urged into one or other of two diametrically opposite slots 16 in a ring 15 secured on the tubular end 11 of the shaft 2 by a pin 12 which forms a driving dog to be engaged by a tool inserted into the tube 11. A button 20 is pushed to lift the pawl from a slot 16. In a modification (Figs. 3-6, not shown), the output shaft is formed by a square-section tube (23) having one pair of sides pivoted to a casing about an axis normal to the axis of shaft (2), and the other pair of sides pivoted to the sleeve on the inclined crank. A sector (24) secured to the tube (23) has concentric arcs of holes (26) therethrough, by which a slotted arm (25) is bolted to the sector so that the angle and/or output moment arm can be adjusted. Positive stops limit the input shaft to 180 degrees rotation.
