Abstract

1,133,062. Winding layouts for dynamoelectric machines. NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORP. 30 June, 1967 [4 July, 1966], No. 29950/66. Heading H2A. In a machine having pole-changing by means of pole-amplitude modulation, the relative balance of the three phases is improved by the use of two or three similar windings mutually displaced by a phase position so that the imbalances cancel out. If three identical windings are connected in different positions to the three phases of the supply, the resultant impedances of the phases will be identical and the load perfectly balanced. In cases in which the slotnumber is divisible by 3, the winding is arranged as three separate units which are connected together. For example, if a change-pole winding in 60 slots is required, this is wound as three windings each in 20 slots. Since it is not possible to distribute 20 slots equally between three phases, it is necessary to use an unsymmetrical coil grouping. But by interleaving the other two windings in every third slot, the imbalance is greatly reduced. Various other arrangements are described.
