Abstract
1,132,932. Detecting neutrons. COMMISSARIAT A L'ENERGIE ATOMIQUE. 9 May, 1967 [25 May, 1966], No. 21558/67. Heading G6P. In a neutron counter using radiative capture, the (n, y) reaction provides radioactive isotopes emitting beta and gamma radiation. The reaction takes place within a Geiger-Muller type counter which detects the internally induced beta and gamma radiation. The counter has a halogen gas filling and comprises concentric electrodes, incorporating the rhodium isotope Rh 103, which after neutron activation produces Rh 104 and Rh 104 m. The first decays with a beta emission and a half-life of 44 seconds and the second has a gamma emission and a half-life of 264 seconds.
