Abstract

1,132,775. Automatic voltage control. STATE OF ISRAEL and J. WEISS. March 2, 1966, No.9195/66. Heading G3R. In a voltage regulating system, output terminals 12 are supplied from input terminals 10 over impedances X1 to X6 each of which is shunted by the respective contacts R1-1 to R6-1 of relays R1 to R6 having further contacts R1-2, R1-3 &c. which are inter-connected as shown. The output terminals are connected to a comparator bridge 16 which produces an error signal of one polarity when the output voltage is above the desired value and a signal of the opposite polarity when the output voltage is lower than desired. An operating voltage for the relays is applied to line 24 over the contacts R8-1, R8-2, R8-3 of a relay 8 responsive to the error signal. In operation, assuming the output voltage to be too high, relay R1 is operated by the voltage on line 24 so that contacts R1-1 open to insert impedance X1 into circuit; at the same time further contacts associated with R1 impress the relay operating voltage, if still present after the insertion of X1, on to relay R2 which operates to insert impedance X2 into circuit. A number or all of the subsequent relays operate sequentially until the error signal is removed. If the output voltage should then decrease, e. g. due to a fall in the input voltage at terminals 10, the appropriate number of relays are de-energized sequentially until the output voltage is again at the desired value. The series impedances may be associated with switching transistors controlled by the relays Fig. 3 (not shown), and may be adapted for high amperage operation Fig.4 (not shown). The system may also be used for A. C. regulation.
