Abstract

1,132,715. Fire-proofing timber. UNITED STATES BORAX & CHEMICAL CORP. 23 Sept., 1966 [24 Sept., 1965], No. 40828/65. Heading D1P. Wood is treated with an aqueous solution of sodium or ammonium borate containing a solid or liquid dispersion of a water-insoluble fire-retardant, e.g. chlorinated wax or rubber, chlorosulphonated polyethylene, or polyvinyl or polyvinylidene chloride. The liquid dispersion is an organic solvent solution, e.g. in toluene or trichlorethylene. The aqueous solution may also contain alkali metal or ammonium phosphate and a surface active agent. 5-40% of water-soluble material and 0.5-75% of water-insolublematerial may be present.
