Abstract

1,132,590. Supplying liquid fuel to burners. TRW Inc. 22 Dec., 1965 [20 Aug., 1965], No. 54387/65. Heading F4T. [Also in Division F1] A pump for use in a system for pumping fuel oil to a burner comprises a pump ring 37, Fig. 3, pivotally supported on an axis 38, a rotor 62 having a plurality of notches 63 mounting slippers 68 movable radially and rockable angularly with respect to the rotor in following the contour of the bore 61 of the ring 37 and adjustment screws 40, 41 for adjusting the eccentricity of the ring with respect to the rotor to adjust pump output. Fuel oil in a tank 10, Fig. 1, passes through lines 17, 19, a strainer assembly 20 and an arcuate pump inlet port 21 to be pressurized in a first pumping stage between the rotor 62, slippers 68 and bore 61. The oil is then discharged through an arcuate port 22 and passes through an arcuate port 31 to a second pumping stage constituted by the reciprocating movement of the slippers 68 into and out of their notches 63 and is finally discharged through an arcuate port 32 and a pressure regulating valve 36 to a burner nozzle 34 fitted with an orifice plate which may be replaced by others according to needs. A sealing pin 70 fitted in a recess in each slipper seals the first and second pumping stages from each other. The first pumping stage has a capacity in excess of the second pumping stage, a by-pass valve 24 being fitted to return excess oil through a line 28 and a fitting 50 in which a ball 27 is pressed to the tank 10. A line 47 branched from the pump discharge line 33 includes a further fitting 50 in which a ball 44 is pressed so that should the orifice plate for any reason become clogged a warning may be given to a flow or pressuresensitive alarm connected at 48. By adjustment of the screws 40, 41, the pump output may be adjusted to match the orifice plate and the fuel required so that little if any fuel is required to be by-passed with consequent saving in energy.
