Printing-surfaces.-To facilitate the assembling of printed and folded book sections into book form, one or more of the printing-plate clamping- devices of the printing-machine is provided with a printing-member adapted to mark the printed product at the line of fold, the position of the mark being different for each section. Fig. 9 shows a set of assembled book sections, the regular line of markings indicating a proper arrangement of the sections, and Fig. 1 shows a part of the printing-cylinder for printing the sections. The printing-plate 18 is clamped against a circumferential ring 17 on the printing-cylinder 15 by a series of clamps 19, and the printing-plate 20 is clamped between the clamps 19 and a second series of clamps 21. Each of the clamps 19 comprises a base 26, Fig. 3, slidably mounted in a groove in the cylinder and a head member 25 connected to the base by a screw 27. One of the screws 27 is provided with a type-high printing- lug 28, and a series of head members 34, 32, 30, Figs. 4, 5, and 6, are provided having printing- lugs 35, 33, 31 respectively at different distances from the screw 27. One book section is printed with one of the clamps provided with the screw 27 having the printing-lug 28 shown in Fig. 3. The screw 27 and head 25 are then removed and replaced by the printing-head 30, Fig. 6, and a second book section is printed. The heads 32, 34, Figs. 4 and 5, are substituted in succession for the head 30 and a book section printed after each substitution. The heads 30, 32, 34 may be secured to the base 26 with the printing-lug on either side of the screw 27 so that, for each clamp, seven different positions of the printing-lug is possible. Further, these printing-lugs may be applied to each clamp 19 in succession. If two different products are printed by the same set of printing-plates, two of the clamps 19 may be provided with the printing-lugs.
