A gas cooker has infra-red burner units 1 each having a burner plate 3 of refractory material with small gas openings 4 therethrough and an arcuate-sectioned cover-plate 5 of heat-resisting glass or glass ceramic material, air gaps 6, 6 being provided between the edges 5a, 5a of the cover-plate 5 and the side edges 3a, 3a of the plate 3 and end-plates 7, 7 close the end openings of each cover-plate. The casing has an open-topped drawer 13, containing sand or water or coated with a synthetic resin film, to collect juice or fat or oil dropped from foodstuff being cooked.
