Abstract

1,131,876. Packaging-apparatus. A. FERRARI. 27 May, 1966, No. 23771/66. Heading B8C. [Also in Division D1] Apparatus for pressing hanks of natural or synthetic yarn into a perforated basket prior to being subjected to a dyeing process comprises a rotatable support for the basket and a pressing foot performing a vertical reciprocatory motion which is synchronized with the intermittent rotation of the support i.e. as the support rotates, the foot performs an upward stroke and while the support is stationary, the foot performs a downward stroke to press the hanks. The rotary support may be mounted on wheels to move it into and out of the operative position. The pressing foot is suspended from a cross-member extending between two upright members, the height of the cross member above the support being adjustable. The support is rotated by means of a ratchet gear engaging the toothed periphery of the support, the ratchet gear being operated by means of an hydraulic jack, the piston of which performs a reciprocatory motion. The pressing foot is controlled by an hydraulically operated double-acting piston and cylinder arrangement. The motions of the foot and jack are synchronized by means of a fluid-control system comprising a pressure fluid source, a 4-way slide valve and an oilpneumatic servomotor which controls the reverse feed of the slide.
