[Also in Division G3] In an electrolytic coulometer comprising a capillary tube containing mercury columns separated by an electrolyte, the capillary tube is mounted in a housing and the ends of the tube are surrounded by cushioning material to absorb shocks. The housing is preferably a plastics box in which the tube is hermetically sealed, a transparent plastics viewing window being formed in the top of the box. Electrical connections to the tube are made through two screws sealed in the bottom of the box, connecting wires being soldered between the screws and terminal wires from the mercury columns. The terminal wires are sealed in the ends of the capillary tube by a method similar to that described in Specification 1,131, 736 and temperature variations may be allowed for by sealing the ends of the capillary tube by a method similar to that described in Specification 1,131,735.
