Abstract

Pendulum-weight apparatus.- In apparatus in which the object to be weighed acts by means of a flexible strip upon a lever arranged upon a counterbalanced element, the counterbalanced element ABC, Fig. 1, is arranged upon an horizontal plane and connected to a loaded lever upon which the flexible strip H acts, the surface ADE of the lever being shaped as the involute of the element ABC. As shown in Fig. 2, the weigh-pan 9 is mounted by means of guides 10<a>, 10<b> upon steel &c. strips 8<a>, 8<b> secured to levers 4<a>, 4<b> carried by two cylinders 3<a>, 3<b> of equal diameters, the surfaces of the levers being shaped as involutes of the cylinders. Levers 5<a>, 5<b> with weights 6<a>, 6<b> are fixed to the cylinders, and strips 13<a>, 13<b> secured to the cylinders and to the horizontal track 2 prevent the cylinders from moving towards each other. In a modification, two cylinders 18<a>, 18<b>, Fig. 4, roll upon an upper track 16, and two cylinders 19<a>, 19<b> upon a lower track 17. The upper cylinders are provided with weighted rods 31<a>, 31<b>, the lower cylinders and levers serving only to guide the pan. To return the lower levers to their original positions on removal of the load from the pan, the strips 25<a>, 25<b> may be extended downwards and fixed to the levers 21a, 21<b>.
