Abstract

1,131,672. Envelopes. UARCO Inc. 16 Feb., 1967 [24 June, 1966], No. 7535/67. Heading B6A. Continuous assembly of reply envelopes 10, Fig. 1, having a reply card 24 attached to one marginal edge are made from continuous front and back panel webs 12a, 14a (Figs. 2, 4) each having delineated on them by lines of weakness a front panel 12 with removable lateral perforated margins 12b and back panel 14 with removable lateral perforated margins 14b, whereby the individual envelopes in the assembly are formed by adhering the front panel 12 to the back panel 14 along adhesive margins 16, 18, 20, 22, access to the reply card 24 being afforded by opening the envelope along weakening lines 31 and 34. Opening of envelope produces a secondary sealing flap 42, which is folded along line 38 to convert the envelope into a reply envelope, following detachment of card 24 the sides of which have preprinted sender and receiver addresses, which are displayed in a window 30. In another embodiment the weakened line 31 which extends longitudinally of the envelope is replaced by a transverse line 60 (Fig. 7) so that the re-sealing flap is disposed along the narrower envelope edge. In still another embodiment the envelopes are made from three plies, an intermediate panel 72, Fig. 11, being adhered to the back panel 141 along adhesive margins 18<SP>1</SP>, 20<SP>1</SP>, 22<SP>1</SP>, whereas the front panel 12<SP>1</SP> bearing the receiver's address 76 is adhered to the back panel 14<SP>1</SP> and intermediate panel 72 along adhesive margins 16<SP>1</SP> and 74, respectively. Envelope is converted into a reply envelope on opening of the envelope by tearing off a central strip 81 along lines of weakness 78, 80 to produce a secondary sealing flap 82 and expose a preprinted reply address. In a further embodiment the central strip 81 may be replaced by a transverse strip 90 (Fig. 15), on which is disposed the stamp to reveal a prepaid postage. In a still further embodiment having a transverse line of weakness 114, Fig. 17, for opening of the envelope 102, the latter is converted into a reply envelope by folding portions 106, 108 of the envelope on to a central portion 110 and the portions 106, 108 are secured to one another by an adhesive strip 116 on the portion 108.
