Abstract

1,131,104. Lanthamide salts of azo pigments. JOHNSON, MATTHEY & CO. Ltd. 15 Aug., 1966 [13 Aug., 1965], No. 34732/65. Heading C4P. The invention comprises a metallized azo pigment which is a lanthanide derivative of an azo dyestuff, the dyestuff being obtained by coupling a diazotized aromatic amine with a naphthol, said amine and/or naphthol having an SO 3 H group in the molecule. It may be obtained by either reacting a solution of a salt of at least one lanthanide with a solution or dispersion of the appropriate azo dyestuff or coupling the appropriate diazotized aromatic amine and naphthol in the presence of at least one lanthanide. Specified aromatic amines are 2 - naphthylamine - 1 - sulphonic acid, sulphanilic acid and p-toluidine-4-sulphonic acid. Specified naphthols are #-naphthol and #- oxynaphthoic acid. The pigment may be modified by the addition of a " texturing agent," for example rosin.
