A basic refractory brick is co-moulded with an axidizable metal plate extending over at least two faces of the block and having a slot or slots along the edge between the two faces, so that the plates covering the faces are joined by narrow necks of metal. The metal plate 2 with slots 4 is bent to U-shape along the lines of the slots and placed in the mould before the brick is pressed.
