Abstract

[Also in Divisions B2 and F1] The channel of a mounting cup 1 for aerosol dispensers is lined with an elastomeric solventbased, gasket-forming composition by depositing the composition 4 in the channel 13 in an amount sufficient to form an effective sealing gasket while simultaneously rotating the cup (see Division B2) 1. The composition has a Brookfield viscosity of 3250 to 7500 centipoises (at 29‹ C. and 60 R.P.M. using a N‹3 spindle), and a total solids content of 40 to 70% by weight. The cup may have a skirt diameter of approximately 2À54 cm., and the amount of composition deposited in the channel is between 230 and 310 mg. dry wt. The composition may comprise a vulcanizable elastomeric polymer, a curing agent and a volatile organic solvent for the polymer, examples of which are given. The composition may also contain a filler, a plasticizer and a peptizer for the polymer; examples of which are given. Elastomeric polymers specified are natural rubber, copolymers of butadiene with styrene or acrylonitrile, terpolymers of butadiene, styrene and acrylonitrile, polymers of 2-chloro-1,3-butadiene, and copolymers thereof with styrene, acrylonitrile or isoprene.
