Abstract

1,130,674. Silicone foams. STAUFFER CHEMICAL CO. 21 July, 1967 [22 Aug., 1966] No. 33615/67. Headings C3C and C3T. A flexible silicone foam is prepared by intermixing a hydroxy-terminated siloxane material having a viscosity of not less than 50 es. (25‹ C.) with (a) a cross-linking agent, (b) a metal carboxylate, and (c) an ester of an azodicarboxylic acid, and allowing the mixture to foam, the carboxylate serving to cause the release of gas from the ester and to catalyse the conversion of the siloxane material to an elastomeric state. In the examples are used: as metal carboxylate: cadmium stearate, lead octoate; as cross-linking agent: polymerized ethyl silicate; as filler: diatomaceous earth, alumina, hydrated aluminium oxide, magnesium oxide, zinc oxide, tin oxide, hydrolysed aluminium oxide, mixture of zirconium silicate and zinc oxide; and as ester blowing agent: diisopropyl azodiformate.
