Abstract
1,130,519. Belt gearing. RAYBESTOSMANHATTON, Inc. 27 Jan., 1966 [23 Feb., 1965], No. 3803/56. Heading F2Q. [Also in Division B5] V-belts are made by building up a sleeve, Fig. 1, having a rubberized fabric back 12, and a superimposed cord layer 14, which is inverted (Fig. 2, not shown) before placing in the circular cavity 28, Fig. 5, of an injection mould so that the fabric back 12 is against the outer wall 44 thereof, the remaining part of the cavity (34) being generally V-shaped in cross-section and injecting rubber or a rubber-composition e.g. a fibre-loaded neoprene, e.g. via sprues 40, 42 causing the rubber to penetrate the cord layer 14 and fabric back 12 of the belt and filling the mould cavity 54 and then curing the belt. The sleeve forms the tension section of the belt and the injected rubber the compression section. The sleeve is preferably of rectangular crosssection, and the first part of the mould cavity (30, Fig. 3, not shown) conforms thereto. When building up the sleeve, a thin layer of tie-rubber 18 is preferably applied over the cord layer 14. The sleeve may be sliced from a relatively long sleeve, e.g. by blades 20. The rubber may be radially injected into the mould cavity at a plurality of circumferentially placed points defined by inserted section 26.
