Abstract

1,130,266. Transfers. DENNISON MFG. CO. Ltd. 26 June, 1967 [19 Dec., 1966], No. 29421/67. Heading B6C. In a method of labelling the surface of an article 20 through the application of a heat transfer bearing a releasable coating of a montan wax so modified as to re-solidify in a clear state, remnants of the wax adhering to the design after removal of the backing paper are clarified by passage through an apparatus in which the wax is melted and re-solidified. The apparatus comprises nozzle devices 26, 28, 36 and 38 for discharging flames or hot gases and an article turning device 32, 34. The releasable coating consists essentially of an oxidized, partially esterified and partially saponified montan wax having a melt viscosity of at least 150 centipoises at a temperature of at least 25‹ F. above its melting point, the coating having a melting point between 50‹ and 110‹ C., an acid value between 5 and 40, a saponification value between 25 and 150, and a penetrometer hardness below 15 as measured with 100 grams per 5 seconds at 25‹ C.
