Abstract
1,130,019. Rosin acids. WEST VIRGINIA PULP & PAPER CO. 30 June, 1966, No. 29540/66. Heading C2C. [Also in Divisions C3 and C4] A method for preparing a modified rosin which is fluid at ambient temperatures comprises heating a rosin to a temperature between 300‹ F. and 580‹ F. with from 0À01 to 3% iodine for at least 10 minutes under such conditions of pressure as to lower the ASTM Ring and Ball softening point of the rosin to below 130‹ F. The treatment brings about a disproportionation into, on the one hand, di- and tetra-hydro-abietic acids and, on the other hand, dehydroabietic acid.
