Abstract

1,129,793. Phosphoric acid; calcium nitrate. TYPPI OY. 4 Feb., 1966 [4 Feb., 1965], No. 5003/66. Heading C1A. An organic solution of phosphoric acid and an aqueous solution of Ca(NO 3 ) 2 are produced by dissolving phosphate mineral in a stoichiometric amount of 45-65% HNO 3 and extracting the solution so obtained with an organic solvent in a multistage system, sufficient HNO 3 being added during extraction to prevent the formation of Ca(H 2 PO 4 ) 2 . The HNO 3 may be added to the initial solution, or to one or more of the stages, or to the organic solvent. Alternatively part of the final organic solution may be recycled. The solvent exemplified is n-butanol but reference is made to the prior use of isoamyl alcohol, cyclohexanone, di-pyrrol ether, and tributyl phosphate.
