Abstract
1,129,753. Producing circular polarization. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 31 March, 1967 [26 April, 1966], No. 18294/66. Heading H1W. A circularly-polarized wave is produced by feeding two waves in time and space quadrature and of equal amplitude to a cruciform waveguide E which is coupled by a transition section (not shown) to an output waveguide of circular section. The two waves are fed respectively through rectangular waveguides A, B whose corresponding axes lie in orthogonal planes. The necessary 90-degree phase difference between the waves may be ensured by deriving them from the output ports of a directional coupler, e.g. a multihole broadwall coupler, fed from a common source. The bandwidth of the circuit is determined by the bandwidth of the coupler.
