Abstract

1,123,227. Frequency changers. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 22 March, 1967 [31 March, 1966], No. 14286/66. Heading H3F. A microwave mixer having a balanced and image suppressed output comprises a turnstile junction T J , having a local oscillator signal W L fed into one end arm A or B and the incoming signal W s fed into the other end arm; mixing diodes D1-D4 connected to the rectangular side arms of the junction; the diodes being connected to form two balanced mixers; and means for effecting a 90 degrees phase shift in one balanced mixer relative to the other before combining their outputs to provide the balanced and image suppressed output Wi of the mixer. Either the local oscillator signal W L or the incoming signal W s may be fed, as a circularly polarized wave, into the circular end arm A, thus splitting equally but in quadrature into the side arms, and the other signal W s or W L fed into the coaxial end arm B, splitting equally and in phase into the side arms.
